Root canals are used to removed damaged pulp from teeth in order to save a tooth. Although the pulp is the life source of a tooth, it may be possible to increase the longevity of a tooth with a damaged pulp if the pulp is removed with root canal therapy.

Having too many procedures to a single tooth can be hazardous to your oral health. With some dentistry procedures, including various cosmetic dentistry procedures, small amounts of tooth enamel may have to be removed for the service to be applied. If too much tooth enamel is removed over time, it can expose the pulp to damage, which may require a root canal.

Not all oral accidents and injuries lead to tooth replacement treatments. In some cases, it may be possible to return a lost tooth to your mouth after it has been knocked out, and in other cases, damaged teeth may be saved with root canals if the pulp has been damaged in the process a well.
