Cavity Prevention and Its Effect on Your Dental Health

Posted .

Have you ever asked yourself if your cleaning habits were enough to prevent cavities from taking root? The truth is, that yes, and by following a basic set of guidelines including brushing and flossing daily, your chances of developing cavities will drop.

A cavity is a hole formed in a tooth due to the erosion of tooth enamel. The key to conquering cavities before they conquer you lies in the detection of them and prevention treatments to ensure your body’s natural defense mechanism, your tooth enamel, has not been breached.

To do this, always utilize safe and effective oral health techniques such as brushing and flossing daily.

If you are administering effective brushing and flossing habits, it’s important the dental tools involved function correctly. When selecting a toothpaste, look for brands that feature the ADA Seal of Acceptance or have been recommended or approved by your dentist. Replace your brush every 3-4 months, or sooner if need be. Furthermore, select dental floss that won’t easily tear or fray. For alternative cleaning treatments, you can also try mouthwash after meals.
